THE NBUF NICHE

NBUF is a unique asset to the philanthropic sector. In addition to its umbrella of local affiliates, NBUF is also the corporate sponsor of the National Black United Federation of Charities (NBUFC), a federation of over 45 national Black American non-profit organizations engaged in social justice, policy advocacy, community development, and charitable services.

NBUF serves as the only national network of Black American philanthropic organizations dedicated to promoting community-based philanthropy. It stands as a model for the development of Black American campaign fundraising. As we move into the 21st century, NBUF raises the bar of expectation to include endowment funds, asset development and wealth creation. We must ensure the permanency of NBUF as a vehicle for Black American philanthropy and economic empowerment.

NBUF has focused its goals to address the challenges that the Black American community will face in the 21st century. It has two major priorities: 1) Promoting Black American philanthropy through community foundations; and, 2) economic development and wealth creation in the Black American community. As a part of its Trust for the Future, NBUF is pursuing donors and financial resources for the creation of an endowment fund to ensure stability and expansion of support services to its affiliates and other non-profit community building organizations.

Through its Trust for the Future, NBUF will provide the resources necessary to ensure the continuation of necessary programs and services that support the restoration and revitalization Black American communities. With an effective record in diversifying and reforming philanthropy, NBUF is uniquely positioned to achieve these goals.

Its colleague organizations and black contributors recognize NBUF as an icon for philanthropy in the Black American community. To sustain our vision of economic empowerment for all Black American Americans in the 21st century, will need capacity-building resources from mainstream philanthropy as well as from Black American donors.
