| The NBUF Plan: A Trust for the
Future NBUF has the expertise, the knowledge and the capacity to serve as the anchor to its 21st century vision of economic empowerment and revitalization of the Black American community. This can only be done, however, by providing stable and ongoing support for nonprofit Black American organizations that make this a reality for Black Americans. Funding and technical support for current affiliates is a beginning. The longer-term goal of building a dedicated and sustaining donor base must also become reality. After critical strategic planning, NBUF has developed a six-point strategic plan that will enable it to systematically focus its programs and secure supportive funding toward its vision. New funding streams, especially recruiting major donors, are needed for NBUF to meet short and long-term goals of providing service to affiliates across the country, and establishing self-sufficiency for the national office. Six growth goals have been articulated:
The NBUF Board of Directors, in consultation with staff and industry experts, has determined the need for three new staff positions, and a $1 million development goal to support the development of NBUF. The positions of Director of Development, Director of Programs, and Director of Communications will be filled with experienced individuals who are enthusiastic about and committed to the NBUF mission. This staff will expand NBUFs fund raising, programmatic and communication capabilities. National Black United Funds 30 year track record in fund raising demonstrates the efficient and ethical management of resources that will epitomize future resource management. The $1 million goal will be allocated in equal proportion to NBUFs program support for 2001 and the establishment of an endowment fund. In this way, the fund development campaign will provide annual operating funds in addition to an endowment to ensure financial stability and provide an ever-growing source of affiliate grant funds. The endowment fund will be professionally managed by an outside financial investment service firm to maximize return and diversification. The NBUF drive for community development and self-sufficiency is a cooperative effort founded in grass root communities. In the past 30 years, NBUF has touched many lives and brought together a broad base of community-based activists, businesses, and civic and professional leaders. The NBUF network has grown through the tireless efforts of many individuals who have given their time and commitment to make prosperity in the Black American community a reality. Our strength lies in the hundreds of volunteer hours spent each year to make our communities strong. We are active and involved making a difference in the lives of our affiliate members and their communities. NBUF strives to maintain its leadership role and expand to a cutting edge approach to building community wealth for the future. Support of the Trust for the Future campaign will be a genuine investment in the future growth and capacity of National Black United Fund and Black American philanthropy. NBUF Go to next page.....
