A TRUST FOR THE FUTURE

NBUF’s Trust for the Future supports the work of local Black United Funds and non-profit organizations in critical areas affecting the quality of life for Black Americans and the empowerment of the Black community. These issues include:

_ Economic Equity. NBUF supports programs seeking to ensure equal opportunity in all aspects of economic life, from access to good jobs to decision-making power in corporate boardrooms, from helping Black-owned businesses to promoting corporate responsibility.

_ Community-Building. NBUF targets its investments to build strong, democratic, locally-based and run institutions within the Black community that take the Black tradition of self-help to new levels of action.

_ Children. NBUF invests in efforts to raise the quality of life for Black children in all respects, by lifting families out of poverty, ensuring proper nutrition, raising the quality and availability of affordable child care, protecting children from harm, and advancing their healthy and safe development.

_ Education. NBUF assists organizations working to raise all schools serving the Black community to the highest levels in America and to ensure that every Black child receives the teaching and support to achieve excellence.

_ Health Disparities. NBUF supports initiatives designed to ensure that every Black family has health insurance and receives the same quality of care — preventative, chronic and acute — as all Americans.

_ Racial Profiling. NBUF helps organizations working to end the pervasive practice of racial profiling and to keep all law enforcement agencies focused on protecting all people from those who would do them harm, not those who look a certain way.

_ Environmental Justice. Black communities are the most likely areas in America to exist on or near toxic waste dumps, to be afflicted by air and water pollution, to suffer the highest levels of childhood lead poisoning, and to be hit with the worst environmentally related health problems. That is why NBUF supports efforts to seek environmental justice.

_ Digital Divide. Ultimately, the so-called “Digital Divide” is an “Economic Divide”. NBUF invests in projects working to bridge the growing gap in Internet access between White and Black Americans, a move which is critical to ensuring equal opportunity in the 21st century.
